Childhood cartoons - TVBabble

October 24th 2006 01:44
What better way to squander your youth than by watching television? Certainly, it's an important part of a child's life.

After all, I scarcely remember playing soccer in the playground, but I vividly remember the time that Bumblebee was too frightened to help the other Autobots in a surprise Decepticon attack.

Well, on TV Babble, you can go ahead and daydream about that cartoon that you used to watch...

For me, modern cartoons are too boring to watch. They're very unisexual, which is good, I guess, but I grew up in a time where cartoons were easily divided into Boys' Cartoons and Girls' Cartoons.

Our cartoons were blue. Theirs were pink. No matter how tempting, you could never cross that line into Jem and the Rockers after GI Joe - you had to turn the TV off.

My favourite cartoon, as I mentioned in the comments, was Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light.

Sure, now they seem cheesy, but back in the 80s, they were unbelievably cool. They had holograms on their chests that would allow them to magically turn into their totem animal, as well as magical staves that would perform cool powers.

It was a beautiful, haunting game to see who would prevail every episode, the Spectal Knights or the evil Darkling Lords. Naturally, the Spectral Knights always won, but it was pretty touchy at times.

They had a toy line, and a wealthy relative bought me one of the vehicles for Christmas, while my parents saved up to buy me the other one. After that, my toys vs. toys war had new generals, and the violence in my bedroom erupted into new, gorier heights.

Thanks for the mention, Cibbuano - much appreciated!

I have to admit, I was a bit of a Tomboy growing up. I always thought the blue cartoons were much cooler than the pink ones.

me too! One of my friends let it slip that he watched Jem and the Rockers and everyone on the playground gasped in horror and shock!

Sisi, you're right.. .a FEW cartoons could bridge the gap, and Smurfs was one of them...
