Free Calls with Google - A Geek Family
January 9th 2007 02:53
Renata runs a blog called A Geek Family, and you can tell she likes her blog. She's picked the wide format, which means no ad income, and she's picked good colours and a fun banner.
Her latest post is a winner, of course. She explains how Google is implementing a fantastic new service - Click on a business listing in Google Maps, and Google will call the business - for free!
Renata doesn't stop there, though... she suggest a bunch of hideously cruel pranks to play with the new service, like getting a strip club to call your married friend, so his/her partner will suspect monkey business.
Really!
Unfortunately, I think it only works in the US, with their superior telephone network. Here, in Australia (otherwise known as the country that still has the Internet from 1999), we pay through the nose for phone calls and internet services.
I guess I can't complain too much, though. I mean, who needs the Internet when you've got thousands of fabulous beaches? Let those frosty New Englanders watch us frolicking in the sun through a Bronte Beach webcam. Let them watch and eat cake.

Obviously, there's a lot of geographic obstacles that make telecom in Australia a lot more difficult than in high-density countries, but at least Sydney should have ultra-fast access at cheap, cheap rates.
I think Telestra likes their pricing monopoly!

Ture that sydney and melbourne should get good cheap rates, right now my speed is below average compared to othe rfirst world countries so I just have to deal with it for now. Hopefully it will change in the next few years.
