Poems - Rudyard Kipling

Susannah posted If by Rudyard Kipling, a child's guide to behaving in society.
It's got all sorts of great tips - tips on gambling and grooming even - and it's the kind of old British wisdom that was echoed in Mary Poppins by that stuffy Father that worked for the bank.
Rudyard Kipling was a celebrated author, creator of 'The Jungle Book' and inventor of the phrase 'the white man's burden', according to Susannah.
She sez:
While many are at odds with his politics, the appeal of his writing, especially his writing for children, has well and truly outweighed such objections...
...[The poem has] been criticised for being too obvious in some ways, and for being too prohibitive in others. And of course, the gender-specificity puts some people off.
Yes, it would have been interesting to hear Kipling's opinions on how a girl should behave.
But maybe, for that, we've got to listen to Mary Poppins:
Just a spoon full of sugar, helps the medicine go down,
The medicine go down,
The medicine go dow-owwn.
Yes, a spoon full of sugar, helps the medicine go down,
In the most delightful - way!
