Saturday Night Fever on the Pop Culturist
June 27th 2007 02:14
One of the most recognizable movie songs has to be 'Stayin' Alive' by the Bee Gees, immortalized by John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever.
This was a pre-Pulp Fiction Travolta, of course, and -even more relevant- a pre-Battlefield Earth Travolta.
Mr. Nice Guy, on the Pop Culturist blog, has written a detailed post on the movie and the disco fever it inspired.
This movie made Travolta as a legend, I guess, and it's often parodied. Not being a disco baby, I can't really get down with the whole thing, but I had quite a few old disco records in my collection, from Donna Summers to Fifth Dimension. Hell, remix it all!

"Featuring the trials and tribulations of a Brooklyn paint store assistant (and local disco king) John Travolta almost single handedly (along with a little help from the Bee Gees) re-invented popular culture in the mid to late 70’s – strutting his stuff amidst flashing lights and mirror balls to hypnotic beat of what was to become the biggest selling soundtrack of all time."
